It's all in the details.
Each of my textile pieces are meant to romanticize life with an emphasis on sustainability; to find beauty in the tiny details of everyday living that can easily be overlooked. Adding functional art to everyday life is really a form of self-care!
Get Intentional!
The more value we assign to an object, the better we tend to take care of that object for longevity. Fast fashion and rapid industrialization of clothing is proven to be wrecking the industry and, more importantly, our planet. I see this especially in the department of childrens clothing. I hear it so often, “they’re going to grow out of it in a few months” is an excuse to buy cheap, low-quality clothing for babies and toddlers. Unfortunately, most of these clothes will end up weighing in with the 34 billion pounds of textile waste produced by Americans each year. I believe that by buying original pieces that are designed to last, you slow down the turnover rate and are more likely to hand that piece of clothing down to the next owner.
Live in Color!
Each of my pieces are individually designed and one of a kind! This is thanks to to my dying technique, the handmade “stamps” I carve, and composition.
I dye each textile piece in a way that produces unique texture and tone… this is no accident either; I use bold colors and purposeful inconsistencies that hide stains which means longer wear/ use!
